All classes are taught by skilled and dedicated practitioners, and there is a high level of support from all teachers. Our teachers are highly qualified, and have passed a rigorous assessment process and continue their study with senior Australian teachers and by returning to the Iyengar Institute in Pune, India to attend classes and conventions, or are in training.
Linda is an Intermediate Junior Level 3 teacher and has been practising yoga for 25 years, travelling to India to study with the Iyengar family. Linda also taught at the Glebe Yoga school for 10 years before opening The Yoga Nook in 2002. She attends classes with Peter Thomson and Pixie Lillas and continues to travel to India to study with Geeta and Prashant Iyengar. JI3 qualification enables teachers to train other teachers and become an assessor within the Iyengar system.
Thomasin Litchfield has been practising for 20 years and teaching for ten. She is a certified Introductory Level 2 teacher and continues her training with Kay Parry. Iyengar teachers are highly qualified and need to pass rigorous exams to be able to teach under the Iyengar name.
Erik Berger discovered Yoga in 2001 and has been practising Iyengar Yoga at the Balmain Yoga Studio since 2003. With a long history of sports behind him, Erik now only focuses on yoga. Erik has been to Pune to study with the Iyengars and is a certified Introductory Level 2 teacher. Erik completed his Yoga Teacher training with Pixie Lillas and continues to study with her.
Jo Seymour is a longtime student of Iyengar yoga under Linda Apps. She began teacher training with Linda in early 2017, and has been teaching adults’ and children’s classes at the Yoga Nook since mid-2017. She is also a mother of three, works as a digital journalist and has post-graduate qualifications in adult education and training.
Jean first came to The Yoga Nook in 2009 and has been studying under Linda Apps since that time. She began teacher training with Linda in 2018 and teaches Beginners and General classes at the school. An avid hiker and mountain climber, she appreciates the calm, focus and resilience that yoga nurtures in the body and the mind. She has a Certificate in Remote Area First Aid and attends regular online workshops with the Iyengar Institute in India.
Jenny is an accredited Iyengar yoga teacher with over 20 years teaching experience. She established her yoga school, Yoga@Oatley in 1990 and achieved teaching certification in 2006. Jenny trained under Senior Iyengar teacher Alan Goode and is a student of Senior Iyengar teacher Pixie Lillas and has attended classes at the Iyengar Yoga Institute in Pune, India in 1996 and 2008. She has a degree in Anatomy and has a keen interest in how yoga provides body alignment and mental stability.
