Here are some questions we’re often asked about yoga at The Yoga Nook, if there is something you’d like to ask that you can’t find below please email linda@yoganook.com.au or call us on 02 9550 9155
What is Iyengar Yoga?
At The Yoga Nook we teach Iyengar Yoga, named after BKS Iyengar, a profound teacher who died in 2015 at the age of 95. Iyengar Yoga develops intelligence, clarity, vitality and space within the body. Props are sometimes used to bring more clarity to the asanas and make them more accessible. Working clearly with our bodies increases the clarity of our minds. As our powers of perception grow we see that what we do and how we do it creates the consequences we live with, both in our bodies and our lives. In this way we can learn to have healthier bodies and lead happier lives. All our teachers are fully qualified Iyengar teachers and have been teaching and studying for many years.
What Do I Wear?
T-shirts and stretchy shorts or tights are ideal – clothes in which you can move and allow the teacher to see your arms and legs.
Can I Do a Trial Class?
Yes, you can do a casual class for $23 and decide then whether you want to enrol for the rest of the term – an option that works out cheaper for you. You can also continue to attend as a casual student, although we encourage you to enrol.
How Big Are the Classes
We have a maximum class size of 14. Most often the class is 10-12 people. This ensures everyone gets individual attention.
Do I have to pick a class to enrol in?
Yes, please pick the time you can most easily commit to so that yoga can become part of your life.
What if I have to miss a class for an emergency after I’ve enrolled and paid?
Let your teacher know by leaving a message on 9550 9155 or sending an email to linda@yoganook.com.au and you can then do a make-up class in a class of a similar level once you’ve checked there’s space.
When can I move to an Advanced Class?
A. Everyone progresses at their own pace. When your teacher thinks you are ready they will talk to you about going joining an Advanced Class. These students are expected to be starting their own practice and attending at least 2 classes per week. Students are expected to be able to do a headstand against the wall and shoulderstand. A good way to prepare Advanced Classes to take up the opportunity to do intensives and retreats.
If I’m a continuing student when do I re-enrol?
A. Please re-enrol for the next term at the end of each term. This lets us know how many spaces we have for new students.
How do I enrol?
Send an email to linda@yoganook.com.au saying which class you want to enrol in and then pay via internet banking (details will be sent to you when you email) or by cash or cheque made out to Linda Apps when you come to class.
What do I do if I am going to miss part of the term?
If you’re away for more than two weeks you simply pay a casual class rate for the classes you’re here. If you’re away for two weeks or less, pay a pro-rata amount of the term fee. Send an email to linda@yoganook.com.au saying which class you want to enrol in and then pay via internet banking (details will be sent to you when you email) or by cash or cheque made out to Linda Apps when you come to class.
Do I need to bring my own mat?
No. You’re welcome to bring your own mat but we have all the gear.
I want to enrol for the term but may need to miss a few classes?
That’s OK, you can do make-up classes for the ones you miss, as long as you do them within the term and there is space in the class you want to make up in.
